Freedos+HX+doslfn looks like it may have just
become a competitor to Win 10, at least for
people with requirements like mine.
My requirement is to be able to run and build
my GCC 3.2.3 toolchain, which I currently do
under Win 10.
I have successfully (to some degree, anyway, still
unsure) built binutils 2.14a under Freedos now that
a bug in Freecom has been fixed (a couple of days
ago).
I am currently in the process of seeing what on earth
happens when I throw the GCC 3.2.3 source at it.
That's the thing about computers - you never really
know what to expect.
And PDOS/386 development has now reached a point
where it is also a competitor, except for the remaining
bugs. There's probably something like 4 bugs stopping
me from doing what I want. And it'll probably take
months to track them down. But as of a couple of days
ago, I believe the actual development has been
completed.
I may be the only person on the planet with this particular
set of requirements, so the market may have had only 1
added to it (Freedos), but that's a start.
Note that Windows 10 and Linux+Wine could be
reconfigured/rebuilt to look like Freedos (which is
what I'm after), but I don't know that that effort has
ever been done. Even if it has been, 1-2 new
competitors is a good thing.
