Sorry for the delay in replying to other posts. Swamped with
other activity.

Here is something that wouldn't happen with PDOS.

I started investigating why my Windows 10 laptop was
slow, with constant disk activity, when I wasn't even
doing anything.

I switched off some things, but I got stuck when I tried
to switch off this.

According to:

https://insider.windows.com/en-us/leave-program

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program > Stop Insider Preview Builds to see your options.

But my screen does not look like this:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-opt-out-windows-insider-program-now-october-2020-update-out

I tried the instructions to go back to a previous version
of Windows, but got this (which was typed manually
because I couldn't copy and paste, presumably because
it is graphics, which presumably means blind people
cannot see what is happening - what are they supposed
to do?):

Go back to the previous version of Windows 10

This option is no longer available because your PC was updated more
than 10 days ago.

Thanks. Paul.

Are you saying that it happens to Linux and other open source OSes too?

Yep. Windows 20H2 wont let you go back after 10 days. It automatically cleans up the disk to remove the files necessary to go back.

That is probably what all the disk activity is.

And I would suggest you get on 21H1 asap.

If you want to know what version you have, just do Start > Run> WINVER.
